Arsene Wenger has revealed he gave Olivier Giroud the chance to decide his own future but the forward chose to stay at Arsenal.

Giroud was one of Arsenal’s most sought after players before the start of the season, he attracted interest from Everton, West Ham and Marseille but all efforts from the three clubs were fruitless.

Wenger was always vocal about his desire to keep the striker and many saw why the boss was reluctant to let Giroud leave on Friday night.

Despite starting on the bench, Giroud scored the winning goal in an entertaining 4-3 victory against Leicester City on the opening day of the season and after the match, Wenger was understandably in awe of the striker.

The boss revealed, he left the door opened for Giroud to leave the club before the start of the season but the French man decided to stay and fight for his spot at the club.

He told Sky Sports : “I love the man and the player because he is a fantastic guy, he is committed and loves the club and he does not want to leave and I am happy that he wants to stay.

“But at some stage I opened the door for him because I knew that I had many strikers, but he is really loved here and we love him and in the end he decided to stay.”

Giroud’s decision to stay should excite Gooners just like the signing of a new star player. The French man has the ability to start for most clubs in Europe and having him around alongside Lacazette means Arsenal have one of the best striking pair in the whole of Europe.

It is exactly what we have be clamoring for all these years, a strike-force that can guide us to the title and it does look like we have what it takes to succeed this season.
