West Ham United have made a move to sign Carl Jenkinson on loan, according to the Express.
It’s barely a week into the winter transfer window but clubs are already making moves to strengthen their squad ahead of the second half of the season. One player expected to leave the Emirates this winter is Carl Jenkinson having struggled for game time at Arsenal this season.
Hull City and Crystal Palace are also interested in the defender but it is West Ham who have made the first move to secure his services.
The defender spent the whole of 2014/2015 season and half of the 2015/2016 season on loan at West Ham and Slaven Bilic wants to bring him back to the London stadium as he looks to shore up his defense.
According to the report, Arsenal have told the defender he can get a new club and will listen to offers either a permanent deal or a loan move with the option to buy at the end of the season.
Crystal Palace and Hull City are expected to rival the Hammers for the defender’s services but it is thought that Bilic’s men are favorites to sign the defender due to his previous relationship with them.
Jenkinson’s exit along with Debuchy’s expected departure could force Wenger into the transfer market as we could be left with just Bellerin as our only recognized right back for the second half of the season.
Although the boss has maintained he is not looking to sign any new player this winter but he may have to change his mind if Jenkinson and Debuchy leave.
Jenkinson has been at Arsenal since 2011 but failed to impress here, managing just 38 league appearances since he became a Gunner.
