Watford have renewed their interest in Kieran Gibbs according to reports.
Gibbs has been the subject of interest from a host of Premier League clubs this summer but none of them have been able to agree a fee with the Gunners.
Watford were first to register their interest in the defender but pulled out of negotiations in June, after Arsenal made it known to them it will cost £15m to sign him but with Marco Silva unable to secure other targets, they have now returned for Gibbs.
According to Sky Sports, the Hornets are back in talks with Arsenal over the transfer of Gibbs, after West Brom pulled out of the race to sign the defender last week.
It appears that Watford are now prepared to meet Arsenal’s demands but there could still be one stumbling block to the deal and that is the player player’s wage demands. Gibbs will have to agree to a reduced wage package to complete a move to the Vicarage Road.
Being an English player makes Gibbs more appealing to Watford boss but he will have to pay the premium price for the defender, because English players don’t come cheap regardless of their quality.
A fee in the region of £12m to £15m is required to sign Gibbs who has just one year left in his contract, after Arsenal rejected a £10m bid from West Brom.
Should a deal be completed in the coming days, it will bring an end to a 16 year union between Arsenal and Gibbs who joined the club’s academy from Wimbledon as an 11 year old in 2001
