CONFIRMED: Arsenal Make Contact With Club Over SURPRISE Transfer Of In-form Attacking Star

Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.

Arsenal are interested in Leicester City talisman Riyad Mahrez and have made enquiries about the winger, according to the Metro.

According to the report, the Gunners have approached the Foxes about the availability of their star man. It is believed that the Gunners are interested in signing the winger in January.

Mahrez alongside Jamie Vardy have been one of Leicester City’s best players this season.

The Gunners are keen to weaken their rivals who sit just two points below them on the log table by signing up one of their most prized asset this January.

Manchester united are also monitoring Mahrez’ situation at the King Power Stadium and could join Arsenal in the race to sign the 24 year old.

Mahrez has scored 14 goals and has seven assists to his name this season

Leicester is not going to sell either Vardy or Marez in the winter. They won’t be aby to keep either of them next summer, but unless someone pays ridiculous money, Leicester aren’t selling. The club is in good financial shape, not having gone crazy spending their Premier League windfall they don’t need to sell their stars to balance their books. They’d be crazy to sell their two best players when they’re in the hunt for a European place.

I don’t think anyone expects the Foxes to be in the top four in May, but if they can keep their stars top five or six is not impossible. The risk is, of course, injury. If they hang onto Vardy especially, and he’s hurt, at 28 the chance to reap a huge profit on him will be gone. On the other hand, he could feel the same loyalty for Leicester as Troy Deeney does for Watford.

Mahrez is another kettle of fish. He’s young, he’s a wide player who actually plays out wide, and he scores goals from the wing. Keeping him is a lot less risky. Even he was to pick up an injury, he would still be valuable when he came back.

For £30 million or so, Leicester should sell Vardy and buy Benik Afobe and Charlie Austin from QPR. Afobe has scored 10 goals for Wolves this year after scoring for fun last season. He’s an Arsenal player, so he knows how to play attacking football. He’s young, at 12 million, cheap, and if Leicester can’t hang onto Vardy, Afobe would be as good a bet as any to be a direct replacement.

Austin is a different player but he’s prolific and he’s a PL player, having big success last season before QPR went down. He’s still scoring, with 10 goals in 16 games for the Hoops, and is as atypical a Premier League success story as Vardy, so in that respect, it would be like for like. Austin would cost more than Afobe though, and is not as athletic as the former Gunner.
