Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Arsenal star Kieran Gibbs, according to reports.
Gibbs is expected to leave the Emirates this summer, following the arrival of Sead Kolasinac. The England international has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs and Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle are said to be keen on signing the defender.
However, Arsenal’s £15m price tag was proving to be a stumbling block to a deal but that has now been resolved as Newcastle plan to forge ahead with an official bid.
Yesterday, we covered a report in the Mirror, claiming Arsenal have now reduced the asking price to £8m to encourage suitors and According to The Mirror via Tribal football, Newcastle are now plotting a move to sign Gibbs.
Gibbs has just one year left in his contract and Benitez wants him to strengthen his newly promoted side.
The 26 year old has been at Arsenal since he was 16 and has garnered enough experience at the Emirates that will serve him well elsewhere.
However, he has failed to live up to expectations over the years and despite several opportunities given to him by Wenger, Gibbs failed to impress.
Watford and Stoke City are also believed to be keen on the defender but it is Newcastle who are front runners for his signature at the moment.
