Arsene Wenger is keeping tabs on AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to reports.
The boss is determined to strengthen his backline before the end of the transfer window after losing Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker to injury. The French man has made signing a centre back his priority and is now monitoring Manolas’ situation at Roma.
Manolas is a player familiar to Arsenal fans as the defender has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates in the last two summes
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are interested in signing Manolas and the club sent a representative to watch the defender in Roma’s Champions league qualifier match which the Italian club lost 3-0 to FC Porto last week.
Roma had already warned the club off the 24 year old earlier this summer and it remains to be seen if the Italian club would change their mind now that they won’t be playing Champions League football this season.
Wenger is a big fan of Manolas the club were close to signing the defender in 2014 from Olympiakos and should the Greek international be available this summer, Wenger would make a move to sign him.
Manolas is being touted as one of the best centre backs in Europe and would be a quality addition to the squad.
