Arsenal are set to miss out on the signature of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports.
Wenger was reportedly keen on signing the Senegalese defender as he tries to sign a new partner for Laurent Koscielny but the French man would now have to turn his attentions else where should recent reports be true.
It was reported that Koulibaly who impressed for Napoli last season was one of Wenger’s top target this summer to strengthen a defense that fell short last term. Wenger is now set to miss out on the defender as he is now closing in on a move to Chelsea.
According to the Sunday Mirror via the Express, Koulibaly has decided to leave Napoli this summer and has set his sight on a move to Chelsea.
It is believed Chelsea have been working on a deal to sign the defender since May and after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract with Napoli, he has now decided to move to Chelsea.
It is understood Arsenal indicated it’s interest in the defender a little bit late and Chelsea were already ahead in their attempt to sign the defender before Arsenal joined the race.
Arsenal would now to turn to other targets with the club being linked with the likes of Inter Milan’s Jeison Murillo.
