Arsenal’s Costa Rican star Joel Campbell is edging closer to an exit from the club with reports of Serie A side Palermo keen on signing him this summer.

This report is according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio who claims Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is in London already to wrap up a deal for the young forward.

Campbell joined Arsenal from Saprissa in the summer of 2011 but due to work permit issues, the young forward had to be shipped out on loan to several clubs before returning to Arsene Wenger’s side last summer, following an impressive World Cup outing.

However, the huge competition for place in the Arsenal attacking wide areas, in which he functions best, meant Campbell spent the bulk of the first half of last season on the sidelines, before he was again loaned out to La Liga side Villarreal in January.

The 23-year-old’s future has been in doubt since returning to the Gunner’s camp this summer, and now Palermo are looking to swoop in for the skillful forward on a permanent basis.
