Mesut Ozil is reportedly close to signing a new deal at Arsenal, after months of negotiations.
The German international has been offered a new deal by the club as the board look to keep the player away from potential suitors.
Ozil currently has two years left in his current deal and admirers have been circling around hoping to tempt the world cup winner to leave the Emirates.
According to the Mirror, Ozil is set to become the first Arsenal player to hit the £200,000 a week barrier as the club wants to send a signal that they are determined to keep their best players.
Wenger revealed in March that the club was confident of extending the player’s deal despite reports linking the former Real Madrid man with a move back to the La Liga.
With Ozil close to putting pen to paper on a new deal, there is a huge boost inside the club. However, there is less certainty over the future of Alexis Sanchez. It’s been reported that the Chile international is keeping his options open.
With Ozil set to sign a new deal and impending arrival of quality players like Granit Xhaka, Sanchez could just be convinced to sign a new deal at the club also.
