Arsenal target, Sami Khedira will recieve a weekly buzz of £100,000 when he makes the move from Madrid to London in January according to Metro.
Following reports over the weekend which gave strong suggestions that the player had agreed to join the Gunners, it now appears that more progress has been made towards sealing the deal as personal terms have now been agreed too.
The Real Madrid star has long been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for much of the summer, with a proposed deal having broken down due to a misunderstanding on wages. Madrid had appeared to be willing to let Khedira go, with their acquisition of new stars in James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos, and will still look to find a buyer for him in the coming window rather than let him run down his contract in the coming summer.
It now remains for a fee to be agreed between both clubs, Madrid believed to be holding out for about £15 million. Wenger will hope to haggle it to the death for a cut-price closer to the £10 million mark, but Los Merengues are no easy negotiators.
Khedira was a star for Joachim Loew’s all-conquering Die Manshaaft in the World Cup, where he was part of one of the options of a midfield trio that could involve Philip Lahm, Tonic Kroos and Bastian Scweinsteiger.
Manchester United had been rumoured to have also indicated an interest in the player, as their talks over Kevin Strootman seemed to be billed for another Di Maria cost. The prospect of a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho had also seen Khedira heavily linked with Chelsea.
However, it is Arsene Wenger who now appears to have won Khedira’s heart as only a fee now needs to be agreed with Madrid for a deal to be struck in January. Arsenal are in sure need of a midfielder of Khedira’s ilk, as he is able to fulfill the deep-lying holding midfielder role thought to be the missing appendage in Wenger’s title-aspiring assembly.
Injured captain Mikel Arteta and Mattiue Flamini have struggled to be convincing in that position, with recurring injuires making them quite inconsistent. Khedira, of course, has has his own challenges with injuries, having sat out the majority of Madrid’s double-winning campaing last season, coming back to feature in the run-in to the clinching of La Decima in May. Without any impediments, he went on to play a stellar role in Germany’s World Cup success, scoring a goal, off a Mesut Ozil assist, in the 7-1 rout of hosts, Brasil.
Khedira will surely be a welcome addition to the squad – not just an addition, though, as he will walk straight into the XI to put a plug to the DM hole which have been left gaping for a while.
