Arsenal have tabled a bid for Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion centre-back Jonny Evans, this is according to report.
Arsenal’s interest in the Evans stemmed from the January transfer window when they offered Mathieu Debuchy plus £10m cash to West Brom. The bid was rebuffed as it didn’t meet their valuation of that time.
Manchester City were equally linked with a move for the former Manchester City star in the January transfer window but they eventually signed Ayemeric Laporte in a record deal, but it is claimed that they have retained their interest in the defender.
Evan has a meagre £3m relegation release clause in his contract and he is now available for the same amount as the Baggies suffered relegation. Arsenal are looking to take advantage of the situation and they have tabled a cash bid the said amount for the player, report the Daily Star.
Arsenal will be without of Laurent Koscielny for the first half of next season after he ruptured his achilles and will be out of action until December. Arsenal have been linked with a plethora of star defenders including Dortmunds Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Freiburg’s Ça?lar Söyüncü and Napoli’s Koulibaly but Evans is the cheapest of them all.
Evan has one more year left on his contract with West Brom but he is expected to leave the club when the transfer window is opened.
Arsenal are already executing their plans for the coming season even without appointing a successor for Arsene Wenger yet.
