Crystal Palace have made a bid for Calum Chambers, according to reports.
Chambers is being linked with a move away from the Emirates and has been linked with almost a quater of the Premier League.
After a successful spell on loan at Middlesbrough last season, Wenger is reportedly open to letting the defender leave now that his value is high and will sanction a bid if the price is right.
According to the Sky Sports via Daily Cannon, Crystal Palace have now made a move to sign the defender, slapping in a £16m bid.
The report didn’t mention if Arsenal would hold out for more money or accept the bid but I think Wenger would want to test Palace’s determination to sign the defender by holding out for at least £20m.
Considering Micheal Keane joined Everton for £30m last month, £20m wouldn’t be too much to pay for Chambers who isn’t far away from Keane in terms of potential.
The 22 year old has struggled to force his way into Wenger’s starting xi and it doesn’t look like he features in the manager’s plans for next season, hence a move could well be on the cards.
Again, consistent reports linking us with other centre backs could be a sign that Wenger is willing to let Chambers leave.
It was thought Chambers will return to the Emirates this summer and challenge for a spot in Wenger’s new three at the back formation but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
