French Ligue 1 side Nantes have joined the race to sign David Ospina, according to reports.
Ospina is expected to leave the Emirates this summer to a club where he will be guaranteed regular playing time.
A move to Fenerbahce was on the cards earlier on but the deal appears to have broken down after the Turkish club pulled out of negotiations. It was reported that Arsenal’s demands were too much for them to meet up and they are now considering other alternatives.
However, Ospina is now attracting interest from French Ligue 1 as France Football via Football Insider claim Nantes have made signing the Colombian their priority.
The French club recently hired Premier League winner Claudio Ranieri as their new manager and it is Ospina who is top of his shortlist.
Ospina joined Arsenal from OGC Nice in 2014 and Ranieri has already made contact with him to discuss the possibility of returning to the French league.
Arsenal remain willing to listen to offers for Ospina but interested clubs would have to pay more than £3m to sign him.
Although the report mentioned Nantes could face competition from Fenerbahce, that is unlikely to happen if the Turkish club successfully complete a deal for their alternative target.
Ospina did well enough as deputy for Cech over the years but he wants to play more. Wenger will now have to look elsewhere for a back-up keeper or instead, promote last season’s third choice Martinez to number two.
Should Arsenal decide to sign a new back up goalie, Wenger will need to step up his game to find a long term solution in a young player to replace Ospina.
