Barcelona have finally dropped their interest in Hector Bellerin, according to reports in Spain.
Since last summer, Bellerin has been heavily linked with a return to Barcelona but Arsenal have refused to sanction a deal.
Several reports in Spain claim Barca sports chief Robert Fernandez recently held meeting with Bellerin about a return and the defender is keen on a deal.
But Arsenal have refused to give the Spanish giants listening ears as regards signing the defender.
And according to Spanish publication Sport via Tribal Football, Ernerst Valverde has told his club that he is ready to turn his attentions to other targets since a move for Bellerin is proving difficult.
The report claim Arsenal have placed an exorbitant price tag on Bellerin and that, coupled with the player’s high personal demands have discouraged Valverde from pursuing a deal. He has instead instructed his club to turn to other targets like Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe and Benfica’s Nelson Semendo.
It has always been unlikely that Wenger will agree to sell Bellerin to Barcelona this summer. Even if the player was to push for a move away, Arsenal would have still kept him, knowing fully well that he still has six years left in his contract.
I even find it hard to believe that Bellerin harbors a move back to Spain, considering he just signed a new long-term contract in November. He wouldn’t have signed a new deal if he wanted to return to the Camp Nou.
