Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez is holding out for a move to Arsenal but he isn’t Wenger’s first choice, according to Foot Mercato journalist Rablat Cedric.

Mahrez was the subject of a £20m bid from Roma last week but Leicester rejected the offer, claiming it was less than their valuation.

Roma has since not returned with a new bid and according to Cedric it is because they have been made aware that the winger will prefer a move to the Emirates.

He tweeted: “Market info: AS Roma have not returned for Mahrez.

“The player wants to move to Arsenal.

“Not the 1st choice of the Gunners.”

Wenger has prioritized the signing of Thomas Lemar from Monaco but the French club is reluctant to let the midfielder leave.

The Leicester City playmaker is considered as an alternative to Lemar but Wenger won’t pursue a move for the Algerian until he is certain that there is no chance of getting his top target.

Mahrez decision to leave Leicester is to join a big club but there have been shortage of offers from top clubs for his signature.

Yes, we know he prefers to work with Wenger but other clubs like Tottenham and Chelsea who were keeping tabs on him towards the end of last season should have stepped up their interest if they were really keen on him. Perhaps, they dropped their interest for the same reason Wenger prefers Lemar.
