Reports in Italy are claiming Arsene Wenger is serious about signing Torino striker Andrea Belotti.
Few days ago, Gazetta Dello Sport published a report, claiming Wenger is prepared to spend up to €35m to bring the striker to the Emirates in the winter transfer window.
The same publication via Sports Witness has released another piece about Arsenal and the striker but this time, it is claiming Arsenal made an attempt to sign the striker in the summer transfer window.
The report claims Arsenal offered to pay €35m for the striker in the latter stages of last transfer window but there was no time for Torino to consider our bid.
They claim our bid was the “richest offer” that was made for the striker in the summer but Torino feared they would have weakened their squad had they sold him late in the transfer window.
Considering we also signed Lucas Perez late in the last transfer window, does this mean that the Spaniard was not our first choice but rather a panic buy?
We all knew how desperate we were to sign a centre forward in the summer due to the mini attacking crisis we were facing at the time before we hijacked Perez’s move to Everton but Wenger has refuted claims that the striker was a panic buy.
Despite Perez’s arrival, we are still being linked with a host of strikers including Belotti which suggests the Spaniard was meant to be a short-term fix.
Should Wenger be interested in Belotti again, we might have to spend more than the €35m we offered last summer as Torino are looking to tie the striker down to a new deal and then include a release clause for foreign clubs which GDS reckons will be more than €50m.
