Arsenal are interested in signing Monaco playmaker Thomas Lemar as Arsene Wenger eyes up a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez has refused to sign a contract extension at Arsenal, with reports linking him with a move to Manchester City.
Wenger has already warned that he won’t sell the forward to a rival club and those within Arsenal believes he will be shipped abroad if he insists on not extending his contract here.
And according to Tribal Football via The Daily Star, Wenger has identified Lemar as a replacement for Sanchez.
Lemar was in fine form for Monaco last season and played a key part in his team’s march to the Ligue 1 title. His tally of 14 goals and 17 assist in all competitions last season caught the attention of Arsene Wenger who is now keen to bring him to the Emirates.
Monaco who have already lost Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko will be reluctant to lose anymore of their title winning squad and will resist Arsenal’s attempt to sign Lemar.
It remains to be seen how far Wenger is prepared to go just to land his man but one thing is certain, it is going to be a difficult task trying to tempt Monaco into selling a player who still has three years left in his contract.
