Arsenal’s pursuit of Thomas Lemar has taken another twist as Monaco continue to resist interest in the playmaker.
Arsenal identified Lemar as its top summer target since the end of last season and have been working on a deal for the French man but Monaco have rebuffed the Gunners every time they made an attempt.
Two bids worth £30m and £40m were rejected at the beginning of July but that didn’t deter Wenger who was and is still determined to get his man.
According to L’Equipe via the Daily Cannon, Arsenal have now had a third bid worth £45m for Lemar rejected by Monaco.
The French club’s stance remains that he isn’t for sale at any price but Wenger won’t take a no for an answer and is reportedly expected to return with a fourth bid worth around £50m.
Arsenal haven’t made much progress in Lemar’s chase yet and it is unlikely that a bid of £50m will change anything.
Arsenal are only hoping they can force the French side to give in as the player himself is keen on the transfer.
It is likely going to take an exorbitant offer to do so as Monaco who have already lost some of their stars from last season have already shown they will only let their players leave if they get an outrageous fee.
How much Arsenal will need to pay to convince Monaco to sell is currently unknown but some reports have suggested that it has to be close to the £80m mark. I am not sure Arsenal will be willing to go that high for the midfielder even if he is our top target.
