Mohamed Elneny has signed a contract extension at Arsenal, understood to tie him to the club until 2022.
The new contract is a two-year extension for the Egyptian midfielder, who has made 65 appearances since joining the club from Basel in January 2016 and has established himself as a important member of Arsene Wenger’s squad this season.
Elneny has featured in every one of the Gunners’ Europa League games this season, and his reliability and ability to keep the ball make him a valued contributor to the squad.
The 25-year-old was a transfer target for Leicester in the summer, but the departure of Francis Coquelin to Valencia – coupled with the chequered injury records of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey – has given him further opportunities to impress.
Wenger has spoken on numerous occasions of the esteem in which he holds Elneny and that is reciprocated by the midfielder.
“Wenger is one of the best managers in the world. We know that well,” Elneny said earlier this month.
