Arsenal look set for a bumper transfer bustle in the weeks leading up to the opening of the floodgates for the transfer stream to flow, and as much as we expect Wenger to add two or or more Ins, it is nearly inevitable that there’ll be some outs.
Well, Wenger won’t let any players leave at the moment, but his counterpart with the Ladies will no more be able to call on Republic of Ireland International defender, Niamh Fahey, as the club has announced the player will now join Chelsea ladies according to Arsenal.com
The 27-year old, who can also play in midfield, has chosen to call time on her Arsenal career that has glittered in glory, since arriving from Salthill Devon 6 years ago. Fahey has been one of the Ladies most dependable players over the years, and can be ranked in the League of Gunnerette greats like Kelly Smith.
It seems a retirement move for Fahey who has contributed to and enjoyed immense success with the Gunners since 2008, scooping four league titles, four FA Cups and four League Cups.
While it would be a loss of experience and immense quality, a viable replacement has already been procured in the highly-rated England Under-23 defender Jemma Rose. The 22 year old arrives from Bristol Academy following successful seasons which has seen her rated as one of England’s best prospects in women’s football, having been lauded as the 2011 FA Young Women’s Player of the Year. Rose will be saddled with replacing the versatility of Fahey, as well as bringing more of the brilliance she has promised over the past few years of her young career.
The Ladies team have surely been making strong strides in preparations for next season, having also acquired the services of 29-year old Spanish forward, Natalie Pablos Sanchion from Rayo Vallecano.
