Carl Jenkinson is set to leave Arsenal as he looks to kick-start his career which has stalled in recent years at Crystal Palace.
This comes as good news to Arsenal fans who have been calling on the boss to clear out fringe and under-performing players and bring in the right stars to provide backup and competition in various areas of the team.
The last couple of years has been tough for the defender, having sustained a serious knee injury in December 2015 which ruled him out of action until September.
Upon his return from injury, he struggled to force his way into Wenger’s plan’s to the extent he fell behind Gabriel Paulista in the right back pecking order.
Crystal Palace were one of the three clubs that registered it’s interest the defender when it was clear that he will be leaving the Emirates this month and it appears the England international is set to depart to Selhurst Park.
Palace boss Sam Allardyce suggested that they have agreed a fee with Arsenal to sign the defender.
Speaking at a press conference, Allardyce said: “I think that’s a negotiation between the chairman and the agent, but we appear to have an agreement with Arsenal [for Jenkinson].”
The move is expected to be completed in next 48 hours baring a last minute change in mind from any of the three parties involved in the transfer.
The way things are looking, the 24 year old is set to be reunited with Allardyce who he worked with at West Ham two seasons ago. Allardyce was instrumental in taking him to West Ham on loan and the former England manager is on the verge of taking him to Palace.
We don’t know how much the defender will cost the Eagles and we were not told if it’s going to be a permanent move or a loan move with the option to buy at the end of the season.
Which ever it is, I think this is a perfect opportunity for the defender to revive his career that is on the verge of collapsing.
All the best Carl!
