With just hours to the end of the summer transfer window, Arsenal fans will be set to know which players the club will have to make do with, at least until the January transfer window opens.
In the meantime however, Arsenal’s pursuit of Julian Draxler has come to an abrupt end after Wolfsburg completed the German transfer deadline day signing of the attacking midfielder for a club record fee.
The long term Arsenal target has finally moved to Wolfsburg instead of the Emirates in a surprise move, given that they never showed interest in him in all the time Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus were tracking him.
Wolfsburg signed the attacking midfielder to replace Kevin De Bruyne who joined Manchester City recently, and shelled out a club record £30million to that effect, according to reports.
According to Schalke director, Horst Heldt, it was the richest transfer in the clubs history. And it represents an end to the 21-year-old’s 14-year stay at childhood club, Schalke 04.
Draxler had been tracked by Arsenal since he was 19, with Wenger seeing him as a possible striker.
With Arsenal now in desperate need for a striker, it was ideal to think Wenger would sign him before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, but Wolfsburg got ahead to sign the German international despite Juventus making a bid for the Germany international some weeks ago.
One more Arsenal target chalked out of the list as deadline approaches, who will Wenger sign?
