Arsenal want to offer Jens Lehmann a role on their new-look coaching team next season.
And as Sportsmail revealed last month, Arsene Wenger’s current No 2 Steve Bould is also set to remain at the club once the Frenchman leaves.
The Gunners hierarchy are keen to have people with a previous connection to the club to be part of their post-Wenger footballing operation.
Lehmann, who made 200 appearances under Wenger, rejoined Arsenal at the start of this season as first-team coach.
His future was in doubt following the announcement that Wenger would leave at the end of the season, but the club are keen for the former Germany international to stay.
Arsenal’s attempts to keep Lehmann and Bould may provide further indications that the club would prefer to appoint a young head coach to replace Wenger.
A more high-profile would prefer to bring in his on members of staff.
However, a number of Wenger’s staff are set to follow the 68-year-old out of the exit door, with the likes of Boro Primorac, Gerry Peyton and Tony Colbert all expected to leave.
