Mikel Arteta is set to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer to join forces with Pep Guardiola, according to reports.
The veteran midfielder has decided to hang up his boots and would look to begin a new career in management.
He was reportedly given offers by Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City to take up a coaching role. And according to Football Insider via the Daily Express, Mikel Arteta has decided to team up with incoming City boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
The report added that there have been discussions between Arteta and City and both parties are close to finalizing the deal as the midfielder has already signed the necessary paper works required for him to move to the Etihad in the beginning of July.
Guardiola and Arteta are said to be childhood friends and the report claims the Gunners midfielder has already discussed the move with the Spanish tactician at Bayern Munich’s training complex.
After the Gunner’s last league encounter with Aston Villa, Arteta confirmed his plans to retire from football. The midfielder joined Arsenal from Everton in 2011 and became a leader of the squad.
