Sokratis Papastathopoulos looks set to join Arsenal later this week and according to his father, he rejected the chance to join Manchester United as he wanted to sign for the Gunners.
Arsenal have agreed a £16million deal with Borussia Dortmund for the Greek defender and he’s expected to be unveiled as Unai Emery’s first signing later this week.
Speaking to Greek radio station Radio 24/7, Sokratis’ dad Charalambos Papastathopoulos revealed that United wanted to sign to his son but he decided a transfer to The Emirates was a better move at this stage of his career.
There was interest from United but he had to wait until July for them. United have a very good relationship with Dortmund, the teams talked but Sokratis chose to go to Arsenal.
Charalambos also revealed that his son is already in England and suggested that he’ll complete his medical on Tuesday.
He is happy, he is in England at the moment, and [on Tuesday] he will be doing what he has to do, the typical things, everything will go well, he is happy, he is changing.
