Wenger has admitted that he is open to making new signings in January after seeing his squad
decimated by injuries this season
FC Basel’s Mohamed Elneny is set to be the only January signing at the Emirates stadium, according to the Daily Mail.
Arsenal have reportedly agreed a fee of €7m for the midfielder that is set to be completed next week, as per the Metro
According to the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger is set to make the defensive midfielder his only January signing as he believes his current squad is capable of winning the league.
The Gunners boss has previously confirmed that he is short at the middle of the pitch with Francis Coquelin, Santi Carzola, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere all out injured leaving only Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey as the club’s fully fit central midfielders and the French tactitian is set to fix that by signing Elneny.
The Gunners has also be linked with a move for a striker and a winger but the Daily Mail believes such deals will not be happening in the winter transfer window, with Olivier Giroud’s fine form and Joel Campbell beginning to perform for the Gunners, wenger feels he has enough quality and numbers to carry him until the return of Alexis Sanchez and Dani Welbeck.
Back in defense, the arrival of Petr Cech has added a sense of security and stability to the Gunners back line with the manager and players also praising the effect of the Czech republic international in the team. Also in terms of numbers, should the Gunners not lose anyone, there will be no need to bring in a defender as the clubs current defenders are doing perfectly well.
In Summary Wenger might be right not to jump into the transfer market because fans and pundits have asked for new signings but keeping the morale of his current squad high would be more important than signing any player in January as he hopes to win his first trophy since 2004.
