Arsenal have moved a step closer to the signing of FC Basel’s midfielder Mohamed Elneny, according to reports.
Arsene Wenger’s search for a defensive midfielder is well known as the Gunner’s boss has stated that they are short of personnel at the middle of the pitch and he will be looking to improve his side should he get the opportunity in the January transfer window.
According to Swiss outlet Aargauer Zeitung via the Metro Arsenal have moved a step closer to signing a defensive midfielder after the North London club agreed a fee with FC Basel for Elneny.
Elneny, 23, is a defensive midfielder who has impressed for FC Basel since joining the swiss side in 2013.
The 23 year old has won 3 league titles with Basel and has played over 90 league games for Basel at his young age.
His experience and quality will definitely be an upgrade to Mathieu Flamini who is currently the club’s only recognized defensive mifielder.
The Gunners had made Southampton’s Victor Wanyama their top target as per the mirror but the premier league club reluctance to sell might have just forced Wenger to turn attentions to Elneny.
