Arsenal are lagging behind in the race to sign FC Torino striker Andrea Belotti, according to reports.
Belotti has enjoyed a fine season in Italy, scoring 25 league goals through out the course of the campaign. His fine form has led to interest from a host of top clubs across Europe.
Arsenal are one of the clubs reportedly interested in the 23-year-old, club scouts have been monitoring the forward for over a year and it was even claimed by the Italian club in January that they had rejected a big bid from us, although there was no truth in that.
With Arsenal in the market for a new striker, Belotti is being touted as one of the possible arrivals but football tabloid Transfermarketweb [via The Daily Star] claim it is Atletico who are leading the race to sign the striker.
The report claim Atletico already made an approach for the striker, which was turned down but negotiations between both clubs are still in progress.
Arsenal will now have to step up its interest if we are to have any chance of signing the striker. Wenger has reportedly earmarked signing a top centre forward this summer as his priority and Belotti has shown over the years that he can deliver the goods consistently.
However a move for the Italian will be difficult to complete because he has a €100m release clause in his contract which must be activated by clubs outside Italy.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will explore other more attainable options, that is likely going to be the case because Belotti’s clause will be too much to pay.
