Wenger has admitted that he is open to making new signings in January after seeing his squad decimated by injuries this season
Arsenal have turned their attention to FC Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, according to the Express.
The Gunners are reportedly in search of a defensive midfielder due to the injury of Francis Coquelin and now O’jogo via the Express claims Porto’s Pereira is Arsene Wenger’s top priority in the winter transfer window.
The midfielder has a release clause of £29m (€39.87) which the Gunners must activate before having any chance to sign the player, as per the report.
Pereira has been impressive since joining FC Porto from Maritimo last summer.
Should the midfielder move to the Emirates, he will be a needed addition to the Gunners squad as they are currently short of personnel in midfield.
The Gunners currently have Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere out with injuries making Mathieu Flamini the club’s first choice defensive midfielder.
The Gunners have also been linked with Peirera’s teammate Ruben Neves, but Neves has ruled out a switch to the Emirates stating he wants to win trophies with FC Porto before moving abroad.
Arsenal currently sit second on the premier league table and are keen to strengthen their squad in January as they hope to win the Premier league trophy since 2005.
