Southampton are seriously interested in resigning Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of the season, according to reports.
It had been reported that the midfielder is considering his situation at the Emirates with just two years left in his contract while Wenger is not convinced about the midfielder development anymore.
Chamberlain has struggled for form this season and Southampton are prepared to give their former academy player the chance to return to the St Mary’s in order to kick start his career again.
The Saints reportedly made a last ditch attempt to sign the winger last winter, though a move failed to materialize.
According to the Mirror, the Saints are using the help of club captain Jose Fonte to lure the England midfielder back to the St Mary’s.
Fonte played with Chamberlain in Southampton youth team and the club is hoping Chamberlain will be excited to work with Fonte again.
Despite Chamberlain’s inconsistent performances in recent seasons, as many as five Premier League clubs are expected to join Southampton in the race to sign the midfielder this summer.
Chamberlain has two goals to his name this season and has made over 33 appearances; though majority of them have come from the bench.
