Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has revealed that he had to think about his personal interest first when deciding to join Arsenal.
The Czech republic international moved from Chelsea across London to Arsenal for a fee of £10m last summer. The move caused a lot of outrage amongst Chelsea fan and brought excitement to the Gunners faithful.
Speaking to French media house Canal+, Cech said he had to put his happiness first before the happiness of Chelsea fans.
“I made a good choice. Had to decide between disappointing Chelsea fans and being happy. After 10 years thinking of club, I put myself first,” he is quoted as saying, via Squawka.
The Goalkeeper had been the undisputed first choice at Chelsea before the emergence of Thibaut Courtois. After losing his place to the Belgian, the Czech international was not prepared to spend another season on the bench. He then revealed that despite his intentions to stay in London, Wenger’s influence in his decision was very crucial.
“I don’t know if Wenger sleeps better since he bought me,” he added. “But when I met him, he explained how the club functions and I liked it.”
Cech has kept 12 clean sheets since moving to Arsenal and in the process claimed the Premier league record of the goalkeeper with the most clean sheet.
