France international Moussa Sissoko has issued a come and get me plea to Arsenal as the midfielder eyes a summer move away from relegated Newcastle.
The midfielder who joined Newcastle in January 2013 failed to help the Magpies secure top flight football next season and he is now seeking for a move away.
In recent weeks, Arsenal have been linked with a £10m move for the midfielder as Wenger attempts to strengthen his midfield option and the France international has revealed he is open to the idea of moving to the Emirates.
This week, the 26 year old said in an interview that he hopes to secure a move away from Newcastle this summer preferably to a side playing Champions league football and the 26 year old wasn’t short of praise for Arsenal.
Speaking to Foot Mercato, as quoted by the Guardian, he said: “I gave everything there for three-and-a-half years. I hope that today [Newcastle] will be smart enough to understand that to continue my development I need to keep playing at the highest level.
“As I want to stay in the France team I could not stay in the Championship. There will be discussions. I hope they will go in my opinion. I want to leave.”
The midfielder also revealed he is aware that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is interested in keeping him at the Tyneside but stressed a move to a top flight team is best for his career.
“It is flattering that a coach like him, a great coach, wants to keep me, but I think he knows that I have got to a level where playing in the Championship would be difficult for me.
It remains to be seen if Wenger would make a move for the French man after his latest comments. However, Sissoko will be a useful squad player should he move to the Emirates.
