Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda has revealed that Arsenal were among the club’s that tried to sign him before he moved to La Liga in January.
The attacking midfielder moved to Spain in January when he joined Real Betis on loan until the end of the season and has been an instant hit at the Spanish club.
Prior to the switch to La Liga, he was one of the West London club academy’s best player and in his quest for first team football, Wenger tried to sign him.
The midfielder was constantly linked with a move to Arsenal in the first half of the season, although a move didn’t happen, he has revealed the Gunners were actually interested in his services.
“Nobody could know what Mourinho had in mind for me,” Musonda told Het Nieuwsblad, as quoted by goal.com.
“It was simple: many English clubs wanted to buy me. Manchester United, City, Arsenal, but a loan was the only option for Chelsea.
“Only one thing matters to me. playing! Whether I return [to Chelsea] or not.
“There was interest from France, Netherlands. My ex-coach Yannick Ferrera, who I speak to a lot, wanted me at Standard, but I did not want to return to Belgium. And in the end I joined Betis.”
