Arsene Wenger has responded to Olympic Lyon public statement about the club’s bid for Alexandre Lacazette, according to a report in The Express.
Wenger is keen on the French striker and have made a bid to sign the striker. Lyon confirmed on their official website yesterday that the Gunners tabled a €35m bid which was turned down.
A statement on the French club’s website read: “The truth is that Arsenal made a formal offer of €35m (£29.3m) to which Lyon have not responded for this one reason: Lyon will keep Lacazette, who is irreplaceable and one of the leading players in Bruno Genesio’s squad.”
Wenger was asked about his response on Lyon’s announcement and it appears the French club’s statement didn’t go down well with the boss.
“Lyon is responsible for their own statements,” he said.
“On the transfer front, I think the best [option] is always to keep as secret as possible.
“If we sign somebody, we will announce it.
“But I cannot tell you much more on that.”
Wenger is keen on signing a striker this summer and the Gunners are still expected to return with an improved offer for the 25-year-old.
It is believed an offer of £40m will be enough to bring the striker to the Emirates.
