Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom will not be sent out on loan next season as the 21 year old striker is set to start next season as the club’s only fit centre forwardg, according to a report in the Independent.
Since the long term injury of Dani Welbeck, Arsenal have been working actively to sign a striker but the club is yet to be successful. The Independent claims the club are beginning to get worried they might not be able to sign a centre forward before the start of next season, so decided against sending Akpom out on loan.
It is believed Akpom is in line to start for the Gunners in the opening game against Liverpool on August 14 unless the club is able to sign a striker in the next few weeks or rush Olivier Giroud back before then.
Giroud could miss the opening game of the season due to France’s involvement in the Euro 2016 final; the striker has been given holiday until August 1st and may not be fit to start against Liverpool on the opening weekend.
Akpom spent last season on loan at Hull City and impressed for the Tigers, scoring seven goals in all competitions.
The striker is reportedly happy to fight for his place at Arsenal having seen his close friend Alex Iwobi become a part of the first team last season.
The club are also considering the future of Yaya Sanogo and are expected to make a decision in the next few weeks but Sanogo is now behind Akpom in the club’s pecking order
