Arsenal are looking to recruit new players into the squad, with the defence and attack top on the club’s priority. The Gunners have been linked with a move for the likes of Thomas Lemar Virgil van Dijk and Antony Martial have been rumoured to be on the club’s radar but none of the aforementioned players have been signed though.
The trio of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain have been linked with an exit out of the Emirate stadium but none of them have turned in a transfer request thus far.
Rumours of Alexis Sanchez’ imminent departure seems to be on the background. The 28-year-old has refused to reach an agreement with the Gunners on a new deal and whilst both parties have remained mute over the situation, it is believed that Champions League football – or the lack thereof – is the major factor behind his refusal to pen a new deal.
Sanchez’ contract runs out next summer, but Arsene Wenger is of the opinion that he prefers the player runs out his contract than cashing in on his sale.
“It’s my decision, but after the board has to of course agree with me,” he said. “If they don’t agree, we will accept it.
“It is a financial sacrifice. It is a sacrifice that you have to calculate, how much it costs. If you let the player go and you buy somebody, you spend maybe more than you lose.
“Also, if you extend the contract, it costs you maybe more than you lose when you keep the player. So you have to consider the length of the contract as well that the players want. So when all that is into consideration, the financial sacrifice is not as heavy as it looks.
“I am a football manager, I want Sanchez to stay, and that’s it. After that, all the financial implications is less important.
“At the end of the day you have to afford it as well, you must afford it. But I want Sanchez to stay, I want Sanchez to extend his contract.”
Sanchez has been linked with a move to the likes of Manchester City and Paris saint-Germain. His twitter location revealed in was in Paris earlier this week which spewed fuel on a potential £50 million switch to PSG.
Selling the Chilean for a little more than £50 million may be prove to be a wise decision than hhaving a contract rebel in their ranks.
