Arsene Wenger has made Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez his priority target when the summer transfer window opens, according to the Sun.
Wenger is keen on signing a player he reportedly missed on before his move to Leicester City. Despite Wenger’s superb scouting network in France, the midfielder joined Leicester city for £400,000 from Ligue 2 club Le Havre in 2014.
With Wenger reportedly prepared to let Walcott leave this summer, the report claims the boss has identified Mahrez as his top target to replace the England international.
However when quizzed about a possible move for Mahrez in the summer, Wenger refused to give anything away claiming he wouldn’t tell the press if the club were really interested in the Algerian midfielder.
“Even if we were interested in Mahrez, I wouldn’t talk about it at this stage of the season,” the manager told a press conference.
Mahrez has been one of the best performers in the league this season and is currently in the running for the PFA player of the year award. Mahrez has 17 goals and 11 assists to his name this season.
Barcelona are also interested in the Foxes’ playmaker but Wenger is determined to fight off competition from the Spanish giants after reportedly telling his friends that signing the midfielder is his top priority this summer.
