Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign Olivier Giroud, according to reports.
Giroud’s future is reportedly in doubt following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette and is being linked with a move to Everton, West Ham and Marseille.
It’s been claimed that all three clubs are prepared to pay more than £20m to sign the 30 year old but they could now face serious competition from BVB.
The German’s top striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is being linked with a move to Chelsea and they have begun to search for replacement.
And according to the Mirror, BVB are prepared to make a move for Giroud as he considers his future at Arsenal.
The French striker fears he could be limited by the arrival of Lacazette and BVB would like to sign him up as a replacement for Aubameyang.
Giroud fueled reports of his exit when he spoke as if his Arsenal career is over, at the club’s third kit launch few days ago.
“It (leaving) is an option to be honest with you,” he said.
“I’m here in pre-season, I wanted to travel. Some people asked me if I am going to travel or not. I am an Arsenal player and for the moment I am here. I just want to prepare well for the season and we will see later.
“But it is true that I really enjoyed my five years with Arsenal. I try to be professional. No matter what happens, I did my job on the pitch.
“I had an amazing welcome from the fans and from the club and it has been five amazing years for me.
“I won’t forget it, no matter what happens. We will see about my future.”
From Giroud’s comments, it is obvious that he is already eyeing a move away from Arsenal as he spoke in past tense all through the interview.
It remains to be seen whether Wenger will sanction the exit of a player who still has three years left in his contract or not. One thing is a potential move to BVB depends on Aubameyang’s future.
