Arsenal are reportedly on the lookout for top quality players ahead of the January transfer window.
Arsenal have identified Bayer Leverkusen skipper as a potential replacement for injured Coquelin.
Bender has been linked with Arsenal in the past, the Gunners were said to be considering an £18 million bid for the German international last summer.
Reports claim Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder after it was revealed that Coquelin will be ruled out for at least 3 months.
Coquelin has been crucial for the Gunners since he returned from his loan spell last December, the Frenchman was one of Arsenal’s best player last season and continued his fine performances this season until he seriously injured his knee against West Brom last weekend.
It is not reported how much Bender will cost the Gunners but the German international contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires in 2018 and the Bundesliga outfit won’t allow the midfielder leave unless a huge offer is tabled.
Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a defensive midfielder in the absence of Coquelin. The Gunners have Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in their ranks but neither of them is capable of providing enough cover for Coquelin in his absence.
The Gunners have been linked with William Carvalho but Bender is Wenger’s top target to replace Coquelin.
