Manchester United has reportedly told Arsenal that they will have to pay £25m to land defender Chris Smalling.
The North Londoners are allegedly looking to give cover at the back for when Per Mertesacker, who is leaving at the end of the campaign, hangs up his boots.
As reported by the Sunday Star, Arsene Wenger has switched his attention from West Bromwich Albion centre-back Jonny Evans and is now focused on England international Smalling as an option.
The outlet adds that United have quoted £25m as the fee that the North Londoners will need to spend to push through a possible switch down south for the 28-year-old.
The defender, who joined The Red Devils from Fulham in 2010, has played 30 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s team so far this campaign.
