Arsene Wenger will be offered a two year extension on his current deal, according to reports.

Wenger who was under pressure this season for failing to lead the team to the Premier League title is set to be given a new deal by the club officials. The French man’s contract expires at the end of the 2016/2017 season and the club wants him to sign a two year extension, according to the Times, via Daily Cannon.

Wenger who has spent two decades at the club recently said although he would not be staying at the club as long as Alex Ferguson stayed at Manchester United (26years), he will remain at the club next season. With the French man still favoured amongst the club’s hierarchy.

Majority owner Stan Kroenke wants him to stay beyond next season and wants the new deal to be signed before October this year. This is to enable the club search for a replacement should Wenger decide he wants to quit when his current contract expire at the end of next season.

Some Arsenal fans recently protested against the manager as the club capitulated in the title race for the 12th season in a row but it appears Wenger would be the one to decide when to quit as he is still highly regarded by the club’s hierarchy.

However when asked about his future in his last pre match press conference of the season, Wenger denied he has been offered a new deal.

On the subject, he said: “That’s completely wrong and I don’t know where this information comes from. You can’t treat that as just an invention. It’s absolutely false. I would like the press to check the information before they give it out because they could have checked with the club or with myself and we’d both have denied it.”
