Arsenal are on the verge of signing Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports,
Wenger has been working on a deal to sign the Germany international for almost three weeks and talks to sign the German have taken so long because Valencia tried to get the highest possible fee for the defender.
The Gunners were willing to pay £20m to sign the defender but Valencia wanted his £43m release clause to be activated. However, both clubs have now reached an agreement and Valencia have given the player permission to hold talks with Arsenal.
According to the Guardian, the defender would move to the Emirates for £35m. The move is expected to be finalized in the coming days as Arsenal have reportedly agreed terms with the player. Mustafi was expected to fly into London on Friday to undergo a medical at the club.
Mustafi would Join Lucas Perez as Arsenal’s newest signings after the club agreed a £17m fee to sign the Spanish striker. The duo would cost the club a combined fee of £52m, taking Arsenal’s total spending close to the £100m mark following the arrivals of Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and Takuma Asano earlier in the summer.
