Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim has hinted that Arsenal could still sign Thomas Lemar this summer.
Arsenal are interested in signing Monaco’s Lemar and Mbappe but has been unsuccessful because of the French club’s reluctance to sell.
Monaco have already lost Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernando Silva this summer and don’t want to lose anymore of their star players.
In an interview with L’Equipe, Jardim confirmed that they won’t want to sell anymore of their star players.
He said : “ When I listen to the media, Fabinho, Mbappe, Jemerson, Lemar, Sidibe are all leaving. But we are a team and some will stay,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Cannon.
Looking at his comment carefully, one can realise Jardim chose his words carefully when he said ‘some will stay’, meaning there is a little chance we can sign our targets but it would take a lot of effort.
In Lemar’s case, Monaco have already had three bids rejected from Arsenal, with the latest a £45m offer and have subsequently placed a £70m price tag on the winger, knowing it would be difficult for us to stump up such cash.
They are already proving to be tough negotiators by frustrating Manchester City’s attempt to sign Benjamin Mendy, even rejecting a £45m bid which was £5m short of their valuation.
I expect them to also be tough if Wenger decides to pursue his interest in Lemar and hopefully Wenger has enough up his sleeves to snap up their talented playmaker.
