Speaking on Arsenal.com for the first time since assessing his squad’s fitness after the international fixtures, Wenger delivered the news all Gooners had been hoping for ahead of this weekend’s clash with Blackburn:
“[Fabregas, Song, Walcott and Diaby] will all be available. I have not decided if they will start the game yet but they will all be available. Van Persie has a good chance too. He has a final assessment tomorrow but we believe he will be fit. It is a bruised knee.”
Cesc, Song and Walcott have all been sorely missed in our recent poor run and their return is a timely boost. If we can beat Blackburn and get some confidence flowing once again, I still believe we can pip Man Utd to the title, despite Wenger handicapping us by some poor decisions last summer and again in January leaving us with Almunia, Koscielny & Squillaci as our defensive triumvirate.
Wenger went on to deliver more good news on the injury front, this time concerning Denilson:
“We just have Denilson out.”
He then dashed our hopes by following that up with:
“It is short–term.”
Captain Fantastic is back for Saturday's match with Blackburn
So our probable line-up will be:
Sagna, Squillaci, Koscielny, Clichy
Song, Wilshere, Fabregas
Arshavin, van Persie, Nasri
I think he’ll be cautious with Walcott given his injury record and bring him on for the last 20 minutes (or earlier if we’re not winning). He may even pick Chamakh ahead of van Persie to protect our brittle Dutchman, but I reckon not.
Let’s hope West Ham continue their recent good form and take something off Man Utd at lunchtime – now that would be a bonus ahead of our match.
