Good news coming out of Portugal are suggesting that Arsenal have been cleared to sign one of Arsene Wenger’s recent most admired forwards.
Porto president Nuno Pinto da Costa says the club would be forced to accept an offer for Martinez if his £24.7million release clause is met.
“He’s a player we want to keep, but we cannot stop someone paying the clause,” he said.
Martinez himself confirmed he is leaving Porto in the summer, complementing reports that he has agreed terms with the Gunners.
“In the summer I’ll leave Porto for a new team,”
“Players develop well in Portugal, and I thank the club for making me the player I am today.
“However, it’s time for a new adventure, to grow from a professional point of view.”
Martinez is arguably Porto’s most prized asset, and he has very well proved it in the last two seasons placing many of Europe’s elite club on red alert for his signature.
Martinez possesses bags of talent, and has the ability to unlock any defence.
He has impressed in the Champions League this season, scoring seven goals in eight matches against some of Europe’s top clubs.
The 28-year-old has shown that he can perform at the top level and would give Arsene Wenger another deadly weapon in the Arsenal attack.
This would come as good news to Arsenal fans who have long been requesting the club to sign a deadly striker.
