Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared his interest in signing new players when the transfer window opens in January.
Speaking at this pre-match conference, the 60 year old boss says he will bring in new signings should he find the players that fit into his style for the right price.
“We are in a position where we want to do something,” he said. “If I find the right quality I will do something. Who doesn’t love a bargain? What is for us a bargain is to buy top quality as only top quality strengthens our squad. Patrick Vieira cost £2.5 million and was a top bargain, first of all because he was a top quality player.
We spent £40 million on Ozil and I still consider it a bargain because we got a top quality player.
The position of serious interest that Arsenal fans will want Arsene Wenger to strengthen is the central midfield position, the Gunners have lost Francis Coquelin to a long term injury and strengthening that position is key if the gunners are to keep up with the pace of the title race.
However the Gunners faithful maybe disappointed with Wenger’s comments when quizzed about signing a replacement for Coquelin:
“We have players that can play in [Coquelin’s] position. Chambers has been educated in that position.”
The Gunners are set to be boosted by the arrival of key players as Wenger confirmed that Ramsey and Chamberlain are close to returning to the squad.
