Arsenal aren’t making any progress, in renewing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract according to reports.
The winger’s contract expires at the end of next season and the club had opened talks on a new contract worth around £100,000-a-week a fortnight ago.
However, Arsenal are yet to make any progress on the midfielder’s contract extension.
According to Goal, the player wants guarantees about his position in Wenger’s squad as well as assurances that he will play regularly in his preferred centre midfield position next season.
Chamberlain has struggled to nail down a regular spot in Arsenal’s starting xi and has been made to play in several positions, most recently at wing back. He is now looking to secure a more consistent role at the club so he can boost his chances of making England’s 2018 squad.
Liverpool are big admirers of the midfielder and tried to sign him in January. Reports are claiming the Reds have made a £30m move for the midfielder but Goal understands that there isn’t a fresh approach from the Anfield club yet but they could be encouraged to if his contract talks drag on.
Arsenal are currently focused on extending Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez contracts both of whom are also in the final year of their contract.
Although Ox has been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City, he is not a key target for any of the clubs, so there is a feeling that he would agree a new deal at Arsenal later in the summer.
