Calum Chambers appears to be staying at Arsenal after all as Arsene Wenger is now ready to include the centre-back in his plans for this season.

The English defender was heading for the exit door at the Emirates Stadium and had been linked with a move to Crystal Palace all summer but failure to agree to a transfer fee by both clubs made the deal to fall through. He was among the players the French boss has been looking to offload this summer as he wants to trim his squad.

However, according to Mirror, Wenger has now decided to reinstate the 22-year-old to Arsenal first-team. The Gunners boss seemingly has to make that decision as he is now short of options in the centre of his defence after the sale of Gabriel Paulista to Valencia in a £10 million deal.

Chambers started and scored in the Gunners 4-3 loss to Liverpool in their opening game last season but was later farmed out on loan to Middlesbrough. He made 25 Premier League appearances last season, including 24 for the Riverside outfits but Wenger did not include him in the team for their games against Leicester City and Stoke City this season.

But with the latest developments the England-U21 international and former Southampton player, who can also play at the right-back, will continue his career at the Emirates Stadium and may be afforded more playing time.
