The 2018/2019 season so far for Arsenal has been somewhat of a step in the right direction, considering the drastic, yet needed, managerial change the club had to make towards the end of last season.
At the beginning of the season, I as well as many fans and critics, feared the Gunners will struggle to keep up with the top six Premier League clubs given the arrival of new boss Unai Emery to a highly demanding league and an unfamiliar territory.
Off course, the managerial problems rivals Manchester United faced, or are still facing, since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, were expected to be encountered by Arsenal since the departure of Arsene Wenger after 22 years at the club.
Fast forward to nine months into his reign at the Emirates Stadium and Unai Emery is clearly leading the Gunners in the right direction, with Arsenal sitting in 4th place on the log, twelve points better than their current position at this same time last season under the reign of Wenger.
In this period, Arsenal under the guidance of Emery with a hugely restricted transfer budget, have taken crucial points from fellow top six rivals, a feat they seriously struggled with under Wenger’s final years at the Emirates.
The former Sevilla and Paris Saint Germain boss has brought back hope to Arsenal fans, and is expected to continue in his plans to strengthen the Gunners in the summer when he will be given a fairly huge transfer kitty to bring in players to push the Arsenal to the next level.
As a lifelong Arsenal fan, judging from the progress made so far this season, there surely is an even greater expectation going forward to the 2019/2020 season, and Emery is so far looking like the right man to guide us to those glory days once again.
