Mohamed Elneny has no intention of leaving Arsenal this summer, despite reports linking him with an exit.

Reports recently claimed he could be surplus to requirements this season Elneny was linked with a move to Leicester City but he has now moved to squash those claims, saying he will stay at Arsenal this season.

Speaking in an interview with BEIN Sports [ via the Daily Cannon] after the Community Shield win over Chelsea on Sunday, Elneny said:

“Winning the Community Shield gives us momentum ahead of the new season. We [players] talked about the importance of winning this game.”

“There has been a lot of criticism recently and I wanted to prove that I deserve to play for a big team like Arsenal. That was my best game for Arsenal.”

When pressed if there is any chance he will be plying his trade elsewhere after the transfer window, he added,

“I am staying at Arsenal this season.”

Elneny joined Arsenal from Basel in January 2015 and has been a useful squad member all these while. He made just a handful of appearances last season but he is determined to stay and fight for a place in Wenger’s starting xi this term.

He currently competes with Aaron Ramsey, Granite Xhaka and Francis Coquelin for a spot in Wenger’s starting xi, although he is well behind the former duo in the pecking order. His situation could even get more complicated if Santi Cazorla manages to put his injury troubles behind him as that would mean lesser game for the Egyptian international.

Despite his chances of playing regularly looking slim, he could get a chance in defence this season after Wenger hinted at playing him there during preseason.

Whether he will be able to seize the chance remains to be seen but since he is so determined to stay here, I think he will be determined to win Wenger’s heart regardless of the position.
